Expensive but does a good job.

This is my first experience with a wet sharpening system so I can't really compare it to anything I know. It runs very smooth and once you get the hang of it, it's easy to use. I managed to bring my collection of severely abused chisels back from the dead and my block planes are now razor sharp too. I'm only giving this 4 stars because I feel for this price they should include a couple more of the more popular jigs, and the water pan needs to have a wider lip to prevent some of the spilling. I imagine some of the high price is for the precision engineering and the premium water wheel that is included. If you have the need to sharpen tools frequently it is probably worth it to buy one of these top shelf tools over the cheaper discount versions.

Excellent

I got tired of spending all my time sharpening chisels by hand. By all accounts, the Tormek T-7 gets rave reviews. But being a hobbyist, I just couldn't stomach the price tag - so I went for the T-3. (I did consider the much cheaper Grizzly or Jet grinders, but I didn't want to risk any quality control nonsense.)

I've been using it for about three months now. Very pleased. Mechanically, it runs smooth and true out of the box. It takes just a minute or two to grind a new edge and it hones razor sharp in just seconds. The T-3 is smaller than the T-7, but that has not yet presented any problems for me (I've used it primarily for chisels and handplane irons - can't speak to other types of tools.) My one criticism: Tormek should include the truing tool, particularly since you'll eventually need it. I did purchase the Japanese water stone and I kind of regret it. It doesn't seem to offer any additional benefit.

It costs a lot but it's worth it

I am a woodturner and I've used a number of grinding jigs over the years. I am inept and sharpening had bedeviled me for years. For the first time my tools are noticeably sharper. I enjoy turning more than ever, and I also enjoy not sanding as much.

The cost of the T3 is a good value only when compared to the T7. The jigs are great but they also cost a lot. If you have a dry grinder and don't have a grinding jig system yet buy the Tormek Bench Grinder Mounting Set and the gouge jig. These are sometimes sold together. Then buy the T3 and the Diamond Dressing Tool (75 bucks or more ouch).
