Great Sander

Great tool, like all of the other Bosh power tools I own, I was not disappointed with this one.

Bosch Belt Sander

I have used this model sander for years and like it because it is light weight, powerful, and doesn't wear you out like a heavier sander. Its handles are arranged to give it a low center of gravity. This makes it easier to control. The graphite impregnated friction pad that the belt runs over is readily available from Bosch, is inexpensive and very easy to change. This product arrived as promised and was well packaged to prevent damage in shipping.

Excellent tool. Very maneuverable. Attachments make it versatile. Noise level is good. Belt tracking adjustment is accurate. The knuckle guard portion of the handle seems a little skimpy but it hasn't created any problems. Boxy design allows you to lie the tool on its back and use it to sharpen chisels and scrapers. The graphite platen gets hot after extended use but the tool hasn't overheated. I'd recommend this sander to anyone that's considering a 3 X 21.

Works Great!

I got tired of trying to get sharp chisels free hand on a stone. All of the other jigs etc. seem like you need to have it just so or your chisel will disenegrate or you'll get a nasty gram from Norm Abrahams lol. The Worksharp 3000 cleaned up and sharpened even my old Dad's chisel that has seen it's share of abuse. When done I could cut paper like a razor blade. Highly recommended.

This sharpener works exactly as advertised! Excellent machine. I was able to hone to mirrored image of myself on my chisels!! Scary sharp is what it's all about and that's exactly what this sharpener produced. Also, I received my purchase a day ahead of time. Kudos to the seller! I recommend highly!

You won't be sorry

I'm a new woodworker and had been using Mortise Chisels out of the box without sharpening or flattening them (Narex from Veritas). I thought they were pretty good out of the box! Oh man, that was stupid and I didn't even know how stupid until after I'd used this little jewel. This unit makes it soo easy to sharpen chisels and planes it ought to be outlawed. Since I hadn't invested yet in Japanese waterstones, float glass, sharpening gauges diamond sharpening plates and jigs etc., I figure I may have saved money getting this and the abrasives sets first off. My previous attempts with handplanes were stymied because of dull blades, I've now found out. My planes glide through wood like nothing is there, I get long shavings or little short curly ones AT WILL based on how I adjust the mouth and blade cutting depth because the blade is sharp with a microbevel to boot. And I never used a handplane before! It's awesome! Just get one extra glass platter and you can have all your grits available and ready to go, just 3 platters with 6 grits on them, then hone AND DONE. It takes so little time to do a quality chisel including flattening the back. Cheap chisels will take longer. And once you get the back flattened, to re-hone or even re-sharpen only takes a couple of minutes to work through the grits. One of my BEST woodworking purchases, hands down.

what can you add

This is easily the best value best performing sharpener available.Yes if you are an expert stone man and have trained under a master then the various types of stone sharpening are probably better but in todays world the 95% plus job that the WS2000 does is really excellent.The auto 25 degree chisel slot is fantastic.I have spent time and money on other methods but they don't stack up.Get the WS2000 you won't be sorry.

Work Sharp 2000

This works as described. I've sharpened my wood turning tools and gardening shears with this. Worked great and fast on every tool. No overheating if done properly. I like sharp tools fast and this does just that. I couldn't justify the extra money for the 3000. I think this dry sharpener will satisfy most wood workers.

The quickest way to ridiculously sharp edges - once you invest in a few improvements.

I've been sharpening my chisels and plane blades using waterstones and a leather strop for a couple of years now. The results are absolutely incredible, but the process is time-consuming - especially when lapping, sharpening and honing a brand new tool. So searching for a faster method, I purchased a Work Sharp WS3000 and set out to sharpen a brand new chisel. I eventually ended up with an edge that was just as sharp as the ones I get with my waterstones and strop, but not before I solved a few issues with the system:

1) The first thing I noticed was that, since the abrasive runs faster the farther you get from the center of the wheel, flattening the backs of wide blades takes a little practice. It's really not a big deal at all to compensate for this, but I haven't seen it mentioned in other reviews so I thought I'd bring it up. Pretty soon I got the hang of it, though, and learned exactly where to put the pressure on the blade to get it dead flat.

2) The 400-grit abrasive on the bevel-sharpening port under the wheel is too coarse once you get to the higher grits. I ended up ripping it off, sanding the port smooth and waxing it. Now I just remove the burr off the back of a tool on the top side of the wheel.

3) The sanding discs that come with the tool are nowhere near sufficient to get truly sharp edges. My solution was to order some 4000- and 8000-grit Micro-Mesh sanding discs directly from the manufacturer. I also purchased an extra wheel, so now I have a 150/220-grit wheel for lapping blade backs, and 400/1000-grit and 4000/8000-grit wheels for sharpening. After the 8000-grit, I give the edge a couple of swipes on a strop loaded with Herb's Yellowstone honing compound (I don't have the leather wheel that they sell as an accessory, but it sure looks intriguing...)

4) Laying a blade flat on the spinning wheel is tricky: you risk putting the tip down first and destroying the edge, or resting the back on the edge of the wheel and getting an ugly gouge in your tool. It's a lot easier to lay the blade flat on the wheel while it's stopped, holding it securely with both hands and then starting the motor. The only problem is that the power switch on the unit is somewhat inconveniently placed for this. A foot switch solves the problem.

After dealing with these issues, I'm getting edges that are completely indistinguishable from sharpening up to an 8000-grit waterstone and hitting the strop - but without the mess and much, much quicker. The whole process is scary fast: I finished sharpening a set of 6 chisels in less time than it takes me to sharpen a single one on the waterstones! If I was reviewing the system after my fixes, instead of the way it comes out-of-the-box, this would be a 5-star review.

I should also mention that my unit came with a chipped glass wheel, but the nice folks at Darex were incredibly helpful and shipped me out a new wheel within 24 hours of emailing them. Great customer service!

Good solid tool

The Milwaukee brand of American made tools are always very well made, and this is no exception. However, this is one HEAVY tool and coupled to the fact it doesn't have a Soft Start make it a power lifters delight!

It's ease of use are quickly desolved when you pull the trigger and this beast trys to twist out of your hands!

Still, it is a quality product and the customer support from Milwaulkee is excellent and very useful.

This is a tool you'll own for many years and not have a lick of trouble.

Milwaukee 6148-6 4 1/2" Sander/Grinder

Have used Milwaukee tools my whole life and was not disappointed by the Sander/Grinder ether. The unit performs very well. I have already used it to grind off nails in between my floor joists and its lightweight and good balance came in very handy in those tight spaces. The safety guard on toggle switch is a bit cumbersome but you get used to it.

Throw away your hacksaw!

This tool is excellent! I've used it for many jobs

where it would have been difficult or impossible to use any other tool. It's most useful

aspect is that you can get into difficult to reach, small spaces, and with an appropriate

thin cut-off wheel which you can buy, saw through anything. I used it to cut 4" cast iron

sewer lines in a confined space underground with no problems. And does the job quickly too!

Also, Milwaukee makes and sells several other models similar to this grinder, and they are all

worth getting, particularly if you want a more professional tool. I'm a home hobbyist,

and the 6148 works great for me. I threw away my hacksaw!

Best in Class

I spent a lot of time looking into my grinder purchase. I am not wealthy and can only afford to buy it once.

This is the best I could find in it's class.

Stout Grinder

I have a small welding shop and if you need a solid, well built heavy duty grinder I think you will find that this fits the bill. Rotating handle is handy for out of position tasks. Milwaukee has been a solid product for me for years and this one so far has not let me down. It is big, a little heavy but that is what you need/get when you need a 7/9" well built heavy duty grinder. It does what it does very well and the power to do it.

Timber Tuff CS-BWM chain sharpener

Overall, a well-constructed sharpener at a great price........

Like others, I discovered the wheel guard screw holes are out-of-line, so I slotted the hole mounting to the motor. The M5-0.8 screw for the other end of the guard is too short when changing the wheel and the guard falls off--use a 16 mm. length M5-0.80, instead. The hub of the rotating blade angle device has casting burrs that make angle change difficult-disassemble and file the mating surfaces for a smoother rotation. And, finally, the "lock screw" for the chain advance stop does not lock--add a nylock nut to the bolt to secure the adjustment.

These are "minor" defects that any machinist can remedy and does not decrease the value of this device. The overall quality and appearance is striking and I really like the "pea green" color.....

Great tool for the price!

Well built, easy to use, and does a great job. Once you get the hang of it, you have a perfectly sharpened chain in 5 min or less. Should have bought one years ago...

Great time saver, and accurate

I recieved this as a Xmas gift in 2010... (Thanks Son) The instruction manual is poorly written, but does have a good chain manufacture angle table near the last page so I gave it 4 stars... However, anyone who is semi mechanically inclined will throw it together in no time... It comes with everything you'll need, plus three grinding wheels for different size chains... Prior to this I always had two chains... One on the chainsaw, and one at the local sharpener shop being touched up... This unit is by far the best way to go if you want to maintain your chainsaw chains yourself, and save a few bucks in the long haul... With care in the initial wheel, and angle selections you'll be an expert chainsaw sharpener guy in no time...(Haha) Quick, and accurate is the bottom line on this sharpener... But be aware, this is not a toy grinder, so don't be afraid to wear eye protection while operating it... Plus be careful of the chain teeth as you go because their going to be razor sharp... No extra charge for the safety tip... ~Enjoy~

Sturdy, Well Made, Just what I needed

I bought a Ryobi sander and had to assemble all the parts. The belt dragged on the top of the base and the sander was so loud I wore ear plugs.

Gotta love Amazon. Of course, they took it right back and I bought a Rockwell from them for about $25 more. It arrived in Phoenix from NY in 2 days! It is all assembled and the noise level is way down. It is a better design, stronger parts and the belt is spaced away from the base so it doesn't drag. I like it way better.

I have been a woodworker for several years and have always prided myself on keeping my hand tools sharp. At the same time, I have ruined more than one chisel or gouge sharpening it on a grinder. If I manage to keep from taking the temper out of the steel, I then have to hone it and then strop it on a leather belt. Time consuming to say the least. Recently I found myself drooling (figuratively) over the Tormek system but could not justify the money. Recently I purchased the Grizzly T10010 and I could not be happier. My chisels have never been so sharp, my wife's kitchen knives are wicked sharp, I just completed sharpening an old, old pair of utility scissors I used for carpet laying and now they cut like they're new. I did go ahead and spring for most of the Tormek accessories and found they fit the Griz like they were made for it. All in all I would heartily recommend the T10010 to anyone that is considering it. I'm one happy camper, or should I say "sharper woodworker".

Quite pleased

I've had this Grizzly T10010 for about a month and am pleased with how it works. Very impressed with how solid it is, and it trully sharpens blades and chisels consistently and very little variation. I use it for woodturning chisels, which i heard, would require frequent sharpening. But soon started sharpening all my wood chisels and kitchen knives to a level of sharp i had never before achieved. It really makes sharpening almost idiot-proof.

Had to buy a diamond t-truing tool for about $12 to true up the wheel, like others have said, and that makes quite a difference once you do. Leather strop wobbles, but not a big deal. Everything else is working nicely.

I haven't found it necessary to buy any secondary attachments yet, but i haven;t really sharpened anything but flat chisels and simple shapes yet.

All in all, i've found this affordable wet grinder to be perfect for my needs. And the folks at Grizzly are very helpful if you have any questions or need shipping/ordering information.

Great value - You'll be happy with this grinder

Well, like everyone else I found the grinder a little beat up from shipping. The Styrofoam was all busted up and the paint job was a little roughed up. But nothing was broken or bent. Yes, the grinding wheel does wobble and yes it's supposed to. I don't think anyone knows why but it does. Note that this grinder DOES ship with a square edge jig for holding your plane irons and chisels. Nowhere in the description does it say this. Not on Amazon and not on the Grizzly site. So I purchased the Tormek SE-76 square edge jig also - just to make sure i could use my new grinder when it came in. The SE-76 works on the Grizzly, but because of the way it's designed it kinda limits the side to side travel. I ended up going back to the cheaper stamped out jig that came with the unit. It works perfectly fine. When you look at the price difference between the Tormek T7 and this Grizzly T10010... No brainer guys. This grinder spins the wheel and the holder holds your iron to the stone. It works great for me. You should see the shavings I'm getting out of my planes.

nice grinder

milwaukee makes a nice grinder. i am not a fan of their cordless tools but this is a nice heavy duty tool.

Overall the best small grinder I own!

This is a very powerful small grinder that is capable of using 4.5" and easily converts to a 5" grinder. While it is a little heavy the powerful motor can operate for long periods of time under heavy grinding loads without over heating, making the grinder "too hot to handle". I have several top of the line, brand name, grinders that stand in the distance compared to this Milwaukee.

If you need to do some serious grinding you need this grinder!

Excellent grinder!

I've had this item roughly a month now and I really love it. The trigger is nice and big and even with my bulky welding gloves on, its very easy to use even on those days when it seems to be on all day. The trigger is the main reason I bought this grinder, after using dewalts with the little tiny trigger on them..... My hands wanted a bigger trigger, lol.

Being able to put the handle on the top vertically is a great feature that I didn't even think of, but I've found it offers excellent control when you're reaching far.

Motors powerful and the tool seems well built, just wish it was made in the USA :\

One Word... Quality!

I recommend this grinder to anybody who is interested in quality and willing to pay for it. Title says it all. The build quality is at least equal to the best of any tool in my shop. Built more like tools were in the mid 20th Century, which were all a bit over-engineered to compensate for lack of the ability to computer design right up to the ragged edge of failure point tolerances. Bearings spin for two minutes after powering down, if that tells you anything.

Good buy for mid price grinder

The grinder arrived sooner than expected, as all my purchases seem to through Amazon.

I was disappointed that, though Palmgren is an old USA company, and I thought I was getting "made in America" it turns out it was made in China anyways. Oh, well. It seems to be of good quality, well made, quiet, well balanced, and grinds away just fine. I do like the smaller motor profile that makes working on long stock pieces clean up easy to do without running into the motor housing. For a mid price grinder this is the one to consider. I recommend it, but only 4 stars because of it's Chinese heritage.

Metabo 4 1/2" grinder

Haven't had it long but seems to be a nice grinder. The fast change system for changing blades is wonderful. I would buy it again just for that feature.

Best grinder I've used

I am a welder who uses this tool for heavy grinding of metals. Out of my Makita and other brands, this tool is my favorite and certainly better than anything else I've used. It has a nice paddle type switch and quick change system. Extremely rugged and has handled being dropped from the welding bench onto concrete many times. Absolutely the best grinder out there.

Nice grinder!

Its the first grinder I ever had and I think its awsome hard to slow down easy and change disks.

Great mid size grinder

You can't go wrong with this unit. It is used a lot around our construction shop, takes the abuse in stride. Has a lot of power and is lite weight. Had this one for about a year and one before it that lasted six years.

A great grinder!

These are amazing. A friend of mine broke 2 makita 4 1/2" grinders in less than a month stripped teeth in the gear box. Not so with the 9005b these are a tank and can take the heavy use that others cant handle.

Best Hands down

I have a half dozen grinders with different wheels on each so I can quickly grab what I need. This is by far the best of the bunch.I

f there is alot of one type of work to do I'll take the time to put the wheel on this one. A big plus is that it takes the much cheaper and readily available 4 1/2" accessories.

Versatile tool has many uses

I've not purchased every type of grinder to compare to this Makita, but I purchased this tool for three reasons: good location for the on/off switch, variable speed, soft start. Its the first 4.5" grinder I've owned and I didn't realize how versatile it is. I've already used it for cutting, sanding, grinding, cleaning rust with a wire brush assembly.

The tool isn't very heavy, but when grinding, you need to use two hands to keep it steady. It includes a hand grip that can be placed on either side of the grinder (or removed) which is a big help doing body work in tight places when you can't control which way you hold the tool.

The variable speed is especially handy for auto body work when you just want to clear away rust with a brush attachment, you put it on low speed and you won't damage the metal. For this reason alone I highly recommend the variable speed. With a brush attachment, I've now done in 6 weeks about 10 years of painting jobs because there wasn't a fast easy way to remove the rust. Well, now I have it.

The grinder is very powerful for its size; I was using this at a remote site with a 2000 watt generator, and you can hear the generator labor when you really bear down cutting or grinding (although a 2000 watt generator will produce 16 amps, more than enough for the tool)

Its been a while since I bought a tool that I've used this much and enjoyed. I put off cleaning an extremely rusted metal mailbox post for about 10 years. I tried hand brushing, sanders, and couldn't really get rid of all the rust. This tool took it off in under 10 minutes and I had it sealed with some POR-15 all in under 30 minutes.

If you're doing more than just cutting, get the variable speed: it makes this tool twice as useful.

One oddity: when I received this tool, it was dusty, almost like somebody from the factory with dirty gloves had picked it up and not bothered cleaning it. But the tool looked unused, I wiped it down and it clearly had never been used, and I have no issue, so I don't know if mine is an odd case, or whether the QC guy isn't careful.


not a grinding experience

I was quite pleased with the promptness with which this grinder was shipped and the performance on a time sensitive stage on a bath counter top removal I was engaged in at the time.I chose this grinder because it offered a variable speed control which i felt necessary for this current project and future DIY's.I plan to now look more closely at other Makita products after this positive experience.


Why would you buy anything else?

Makita brand has yet to do me wrong. Have only done a few small jobs with this new 4.5" grinder. I have used similar grinders in the 1980s and 1990s. On some jobs we would run the grinders 8 hours a day 5 days per week. Very reliable. Until a Makita chokes the chicken prematurely, I will never look to another brand for power tools.
